Empowered Group Purchasing
In 2009, Foundation For the Challenged engaged The Arc of Ohio to collaborate to decrease the cost of daily necessities for people with developmental disabilities, their families, and member-supporters in the state of Ohio. The goal of a Group Purchasing Organization is to channel sales volume to retail partners, in-exchange for healthy discounts to GPO members; a “Costco”-like program without walls.

Access to our new GPO, Empowered Group Purchasing,
will be generated through membership in The
Arc of Ohio. All members will then be able to decrease
their cost of living by saving on necessities on a variety of
goods and services including: medical supplies, food, gasoline,
utilities, and insurance products.
Through collaboration the two nonprofits created an innovative venture that will:
- Generate awareness and value for people with developmental disabilities.
- Grow and provide self-sustaining income for The Arc of Ohio through increased membership.
- Expand FFC’s portfolio of programs that advance the quality of life for people with developmental disabilities.
- To access the benefits of discount purchasing people join an Arc Chapter or The Arc of Ohio. This means current Arc members as well as prospective members can start enjoying the benefits of “Purchasing with Purpose.”
