FFC 2015 Annual Report

Opening Doors to Community a Success!

Thanks to the efforts of many volunteers, our partners, Catholic Residential Services, and with support from the Ohio Developmental Disabilities Council, FFC's 2016 Opening Doors to Community was a success!  On May 14, 2016 volunteers spread out to four locations in Cincinnati, OH and despite the less-than-perfect weather, did a lot of work in a few hours.  Residents at each of the homes pitched in, as well.  A whole album of pictures can be found on our Facebook page.  Thanks to all who helped! Our friends at CRS said, "Thank you and all those from FFC and volunteers who made the resident’s home so beautiful!  The residents that joined the work loved it, and now all want to help water the flowers and care for the vegetable gardens.  Neighbors have commented on how lovely our yards look which makes us feel like good neighbors.  Thanks for bringing that curb appeal!"

Foundation For the Challenged, (FFC) is a social enterprise non-profit engaged in direct service programs and social change philanthropy. Our direct service programs include providing accessible and affordable housing for people with Developmental Disabilities and charitable support living necessities.

Since 1979, FFC has helped transform the lives of thousands of people with developmental disabilities through its programs. We started as a program service provider in central Ohio operating group homes for over 200 individuals. In 2002, we changed our focus from providing program services to charitable support while keeping a core belief that people with developmental disabilities can live a more productive life when given choice in housing. We acted upon that belief by purchasing community based homes for people with developmental disabilities to rent and call home.

FFC currently manages homes in eleven states. FFC has purchased over 12 million dollars of residential homes by self-funding mortgage financing requirements. To make more homes affordable we worked to apply and qualify for affordable housing grants. To date FFC has been awarded over 8 million dollars of housing grant funds for purchase, modification and maintaining 40 community based homes in the states of Washington, Ohio, West Virginia and Tennessee.

At Foundation For the Challenged, we are privileged to frequently hear comments like the ones you see on our website from the providers and clients we serve. Helping people with developmental disabilities improve their everyday lives by providing safe, affordable housing options and meeting personal quality of life needs is what FFC is all about.
